My father, David Stewart Cunningham, passed away on the 22nd January 2004, while working abroad in Serbia.
While i'm still getting over this and not finding any coherent way of expressing myself, i'd like to show you an obituary from LEPRA, the leprosy charity he was heavily involved with...
David
Stewart Cunningham RIP.
We are deeply saddened to have to announce the death of David Stewart Cunningham.
David, who died suddenly and tragically in Belgrade on 22nd January 2004,
was a member of LEPRA's Executive Committee since August 1999. He joined
the Finance Committee and was very involved with our staff in Colchester
and in India. Stewart as we knew him, gave his time an energy not only
freely, but with wonderful results, particularly helping our Indian colleagues
to write their human
resource strategy.
Stewart was an internationally recognised expert
in health system finance, was a qualified accountant who had a distinguished
career in the UK National Health Service, at the most senior levels.
After leaving the NHS he used his undoubted expertise and talents on
a range of international advisory projects throughout the World.
His most recent work in Serbia followed several visits
to the country over the past two years where he was involved in assessing
future strategic and investment needs and priorities of the four main
clinical centres in Serbia for the Ministry of Health.
Stewart's death represents
a considerable loss to all of us at LEPRA however this can be nothing compared
to the feelings of shock and sadness felt by his
family in UK, at this time. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences
to his family at this most difficult and sad time. 29/01/2004.
